How to Catch and Elf!
A perfect activity for students to complete during the Christmas season.
Includes: flap books, instructional writing, creative writing, and project-based learning!
The main portion of this resource is a PBL on how to catch an elf. This activity is great to do alongside 'Diary of an Elf' as well. If you have an elf in your classroom, the students can be challenged to make a trap to catch him or her.
Students can also just make a trap for fun. Really have your students tap into their creativity.
Also included in this packet is:
-Lift the flap book: students can write or illustrate how to catch an elf. A blank flap book is also included for your own ideas.
-Staggered flap book: again, students can write or illustrate. A blank book is also included for your own ideas.
-A variety of blank templates that you can have your students complete depending on your own criteria.
-The project:
-First students brainstorm what they know about elves. Then using this knowledge they will make a mind map of all the ways they could catch an elf.
-Picking one way, students then go about using their creativity to make one. You can set the criteria for what objects they can use whether recyclables, Lego, blocks, or whatever. There is also a reflective part at the end for your students to extend their thinking.
-Art activity – make an elf using plasticine.
