Map Skills - Self-checking games
This no-prep resource has 3 different self-checking games to review map skills.
It's a web-based game, that requires a URL. No log-in required by teachers or students. Just put the URL into the web browser and viola. Read to play!
Students are highly engaged with this interactive game-based experience. A great way to review material already taught. As they are self-correcting, students get immediate feedback to ensure they aren't practicing incorrectly. 68 questions in all!!
Game 1 – Cardinal Directions
-20 self-checking questions covering basic cardinal directions (North, South, East, and West) Including:
-identifying directions on a compass rose
-reading a map to identify directions (moves from simple to more complex maps)
Game 2 – Intermediate Directions
-20 self-checking questions covering intermediate directions (Southwest, Southeast, Northwest, Northeast)
-Including:
- identifying directions on a compass rose
- reading a map to identify directions (moves from simple to more complex maps)
Game 3 – World Map
-28 self-checking questions covering: hemispheres, prime meridian, equator, latitude, longitude, continents, and oceans
-Including:
- identifying all of the above
- point and click, true and false questions
How do students play?
-simply give your students the URL posted in this resource, and then they begin playing immediately. A question (with pictures) is given, students click on the correct answer. If they get it correct, they advance to the next question. If they get it wrong, they are directed back to the question, which they have to repeat until they get it correct.
