This no prep DIGITAL resource fits nicely with the Words their Way™ program, but can also be used without it. This package covers the red book - ‘Alphabetic Spellers’, —For use with 2nd edition all of the sorts (see contents below). As more and more classrooms have access to iPads and Chromebooks, or are going 1:1 - paper becomes less attractive. I really like the Words their Way™ program, however the one aspect I don’t particularly like is the amount of paper that it consumes. I wanted an alternative to paper without compromising the program. This digital version of the word sorts is the result.
Instructions for teachers are included in a 15 page PDF file. This includes all the links you will need. The easiest way to assign the sorts to your groups, is within Google Classroom. This makes organization so much easier. You can assign a section of sorts, or just assign the weekly sort. All the students need to do in the activities is to click in the box and type their response or drag a picture and/or word into place.
Some ideas in the classroom can be to use as part of your Literacy centers, use alongside your Words their Way™ program, use in small groups, or homework, or as extra practice. You can add this resource right into your weekly schedule of activities. Even if you don’t use Words their Way™, you can certainly use this resource for your word work activities in your classroom.
Each sort comprises of 2 pages of reinforcement activities. As well each section comes with a 2 page assessment piece. There are 110 google slides of activities for the sorts.
Words are not exactly the same as in the Words Their Way™ program. Other words have been chosen to help students scaffold their learning with each sort. This program supplements the Words Their Way™ program, it does not replace it.
