Try before you buy: Words Our Way Digital Activities: SAMPLE
 
This no-prep DIGITAL resource is aligned with the Words their Way™ program, but can also be used without it. This package covers the ‘Syllables & Affixes Spellers’ (second edition), all of the sorts (see contents below). As more and more classrooms have access to iPads and Chromebooks or are going 1:1 - paper becomes less attractive. I really like the Words Their Way program, however, the one aspect I don’t particularly like is the amount of paper that it consumes. I wanted an alternative to paper without compromising the program. This digital version of the word sorts is the result.
 
Instructions for teachers are included in an 11 page PDF file. This includes all the links for Sorts 1-56 you will need. The easiest way to assign the sorts to your groups is within Google Classroom. This makes theorganization so much easier. You can assign a section of sorts, or just assign the weekly sort. All the students need to do in the activities is to click in the box and type their response or drag a picture and/or word into place.
 
Some ideas in the classroom can be to use as part of your Literacy centers, use alongside your Words their Way™ program, use in small groups, for homework or as extra practice. You can add this resource right into your weekly schedule of activities. Even if you don’t use Words their Way™, you can certainly use this resource for your word work activities in your classroom.
 
Each sort comprises of 2 pages of reinforcement activities. As well each section comes with a 2-page assessment piece. There are 126 google slides of activities for the sorts.
 
Words are not exactly the same as in the Words Their Way™ program. Other words have been chosen to help students scaffold their learning with each sort. This program supplements the Words Their Way™ program, it does not replace it.

Unit 1: Inflected endings -ing, -ed, s, -es (Sorts 1-9)
Unit 2: Compound words (Sorts 10-11)
Unit 3: Syllable juncture (Sorts 12-16)
Unit 4: Vowel patterns in accented syllables (Sorts 17-28)
Unit 5: Unaccented syllables (Sorts 29-38)
Unit 6: Exploring consonants (Sorts 39-45)
Unit 7: Affixes (Sorts 46-52)
Unit 8: Miscellaneous sorts (Sorts 53-56)
